funincidences

Funny thing, coincidences. Should be called funincidences. I read a new blog which got me thinking (again) about the fact that I now and then stop, and remind myself of what it is I bring to the creative process. I mean planning can be both narrow and wide I think, depending on the situation, but there’s some core that always stays the same. As with a lot of the never ending questions around planning (APG Sweden spent, I don’t know how many hours, defining what we do) and thought - jesus, that shouldn’t be something I have to do, should I? Isn’t that kind of unprofessional? Having to ask myself questions like that every now and then. Then read a post over at digicynic that was kind of nice for a fairly new planner like myself. The guy’s obviously great at what he does. Otherwise WK wouldn’t have him so I think I take that as, kind of, proof of the fact. The fact being that yes, we need to stop and remind ourselves every now and then. We don’t run machines. We don’t do the same over and over (except for some processes that tend to help, perhaps). Perhaps we should do it even more often, as the world spins faster. I think the core remains but in which way we get to it changes. It has to because stuff in people’s lives change. Anyways.

Don’t think one, insignificant funincident is worthy of a post in these shit-loads-of-work times. No, no. I also had a really interesting chat with two friends, one of whom I have to meet up with more because we never seem to synch, about advertising and ideas. Kind of on Rob’s PSFK presentation about creating solutions to advertise around. Not the problem. And again, coincidental, I had a presentation to a class at the Media Institute today. They study communications and mixed media, I guess you can call it (this specific class), and we discussed communication and advertising and what that really is (no, we weren’t that basic, but it started like that). My point of view: too narrow. Great ideas and great creative thinkers who just happen to come from, or work in, an industry which has always expected of them to create ads. Not solutions, period, but rather ads. But we’re some of the most creative thinkers and could definitely go beyond ads (Rob again, who packaged it beautifully I think, even though he didn’t agree). So two coincidental subject crossings today. Coincidents are cosmic fuck-ups. Fuck-ups I tell you. Fuck-ups.

Finally; those who don’t get 7 hours of sleep continually are 3 times more likely to get sick. That means me. Really, very super sick if that’s the case. So, today’s (tomorrow) challenge: go to bed, get up and be at work 7:30 tomorrow. Great fucking back-log of RSS feeds and mails to catch up with. My track record says I won’t make it. Bed’s too comfy. I’m going to start sleeping in the bath tub. But a while ago, when It was light out, I had a great run. I was at work with the cleaning lady. Seriously. Around 7, 7:30 I was there with a coffee and time to myself. Some music and thoughts. I found out I don’t have to be a late night thinker, mornings work too. It’s just too friggin’ hard to get up.
